Snowfall at base this seas 722cm

Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

10:15am update:

It may not last long, but the clouds have cleared to some degree and we have some blue sky and the sun making everywhere look really beautiful.

Original early morning report:

Good morning from a cold and snowy Yuzawa.

We may not have received as much snowfall as we expected during the day yesterday (about 12cm by 6pm). That was cleared... and this morning there is another 45cm on our measuring spot!

That gives us a total of 60cm since yesterday morning.

Yuzawa Kogen are only reporting 30cm snowfall. I am guessing there is really more than that up there! (Sometimes ski areas don't like talking about 'scary snowfall numbers').

Maiko Snow Resort is not reporting anything yet... other than there will be a delay with opening this morning.

The top Kagura Number 5 lift will be closed today due to avalanche risk. The Tashiro-Kagura connecting course and a few others also seem to be closed.

The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is closed too.

We can expect other delays or lifts affected by all this snowfall.

It is still snowing and a lot more is expected over the next few days. Perhaps worth pointing out that, at the time of this report it seems unlikely but some forecasts do indicate that we may have a lull in the snow mid-day and might even get a bit of sun.

In some ways it is kind of scary, but the much fun kind of scary.

(Just as long as everyone takes extra super care in the conditions and no-one gets hurt).
