Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 14cm
Snowfall at base this seas 60cm

Posted on Saturday 6th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Yuzawa.

It is a truly beautiful morning here. There's clear blue skies and sunshine and with that lovely snow on the ground, of course.

14cm more fresh snow to report since yesterday morning. It was snowing quite heavily at times during the day yesterday before easing off in the evening.

Kagura now has a bunch of runs open including Giant, Technical and Panorama, so there's a fair amount of terrain to play in.

Joetsu Kokusai is on standby to open as soon as there is enough snow. (They are currently looking at Monday as a possible, but with the fine weather today and tomorrow that seems rather unlikely. Anyway, we'll keep you up to date on that as the days go on).

So, yes, we expect fine weather today and tomorrow with tomorrow possibly getting up to above 10C in town.

A word about the planned opening date of GALA Yuzawa. The ski area actually plans to be open 13th-19th December, but for sightseeing purposes only. Skiing and snowboarding will not be available during that period. I am told that even if there is a huge amount of snow during that period, skiing and snowboarding will still only start from 20th December.
