Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 9cm
Snowfall at base this seas 241cm

Posted on Sunday 4th January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Some more snow since my report yesterday morning along with another 5cm or so overnight, so there's another 9cm to add to this report.

There's quite a lot of cloud to the north but, as of 7:45am, there's a lot of blue sky over Yuzawa. It looks like those clouds to the north might be moving over to us, but forecasts seem to indicate a generally clear morning.

The groomed slopes are looking very inviting in the early morning sunshine.

Back to some snow tomorrow perhaps, but also a chance of rain with some milder conditions. It would be great if we could avoid that.

The recent snow has been most welcome, but we're still low on snow and most ski areas are still not able to get 100% open.

Today will be the last day of the new year holidays for many people. We can usually expect places to get less busy in the afternoon as people start to make their way back home.
