Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 32cm
Snowfall at base this seas 1100cm

Posted on Friday 21st February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Yuzawa.

The snow continues. 10cm by 6pm yesterday and another 22cm this morning. And it is still snowing.

That's 180cm of observed snowfall across the last 4 reports.

Crazy!

Maiko Snow Resort reports 30cm this morning.

Relief is due from Tuesday when the skies should be clearing, but there's going to be more snow before then. Perhaps not as much as the last few days, but maybe a fair amount. Some forecasts hint at the chance of some clearer skies from time to time. We shall see.

GALA Yuzawa is going to be completely closed for the day today due to the heavy snowfall, as they try to deal with it before the weekend. (Apparently, today is the first time ever that GALA Yuzawa has decided to not open due to heavy snowfall).

Kagura is managing to open via the Mitsumata Ropeway up to Kagura Gondola. The Tashiro Area is open up to Tashiro Number 1 quad lift.

It looks like Yuzawa Kogen is opening.

Once again, other lifts at other ski areas might be delayed/affected.

Monday is a national holiday and so tomorrow is the first day of a long 3-day weekend for many.
