We enjoyed some very fine sunny weather during the morning yesterday which was a nice surprise. Clouds gradually started appearing from the early afternoon.
It is fairly easy to ignore and forgive the bit of rain last night because this morning there is a nice layer of fresh snow on the ground. I have just measured 21cm of it.
Yuzawa Kogen and Maiko Snow Resort are both reporting 20cm of it.
Kagura are reporting up to 50cm. That sounds good! (But Kagura do not seem to currently be updating/reporting their official snow depth numbers; not that those numbers are particularly important).
It looks like the Tashiro area of Kagura is closed for the day due to forecast strong winds with the Kagura area open up to the Kagura Number 1 romance lift. As far as I can tell, other ski resorts in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma are opening as normal (but we might need to keep an eye on wind conditions).
There are some breaks in the cloud above Yuzawa right now but a bank of grey cloud just to the north in Minamiuonuma and snow still falling - as can be seen on the images below. So that potential break is quite probably temporary. Snow is forecast for the day and into tomorrow. Indeed, regular snow through into next week.
