Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 35cm
Snowfall at base this seas 955cm

Posted on Tuesday 18th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

The week of forecast snowfall is underway, with latest forecasts predicting that it might well continue through the weekend... and heavy at times (!)

This morning the 24 hour measurement was 35cm. (There has been 10cm less than that at SJHQ just to the north of Yuzawa).

That is actually less than we were expecting, but there is a lot more on the way.

Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 40cm of fresh snowfall.

At the time of this report it is snowing moderately with limited to poor visibility, though there have been some periods of clearer conditions at times.

Only the Mitsumata Area of Kagura will be open today due to the wind/weather. (Kagura Area and Tashiro Area are closed for the day).

All other ski areas appear to be opening but some lifts may be affected. (Update: The Southern Area of GALA will not be opening).
