Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 41cm
Snowfall at base this seas 531cm

Posted on Thursday 16th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

A very pleasing amount of fresh snow has arrived since the report yesterday morning.

The snow was coming down heavy at times from mid-afternoon and as a result this morning there was 41cm piled up at our Yuzawa measuring point. The first (small) icicles of the season have been spotted on our roof this morning, too. (Winter feels more complete when we get our icicles).

Kagura Ski Area is reporting about 30cm fresh snowfall in the Kagura Area and 50cm in the Mitsumata Area. Interesting. Yuzawa Kogen is reporting about 40cm. Maiko Snow Resort has not said anything in time for this report, but I would expect about the same amount.

I think we can expect a good layer of fresh pretty much everywhere this morning.

It is still snowing lightly at 8am, but expected to gradually ease off and clear up during the day today. We may even get some sunshine later in the day, possibly even before noon, according to some forecasts.

Some snow is forecast again for tomorrow and then we should be back to clearer skies by Saturday.
