Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 8cm
Snowfall at base this seas 919cm

Posted on Friday 14th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Things seem calmer this morning, though some ski areas are still warning about wind conditions.

The day is starting with a mix of cloud and blue sky over Yuzawa and the neighbouring valley, though forecasts generally say it will mostly just be a cloud day with the chance of some light snow again this afternoon.

Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 5-10cm since yesterday and the observed measurement for this report is 8cm.

The messaging from Kagura is somewhat unclear early this morning, but it appears to be open only up to the Kagura gondola (via Mitsumata Ropeway), with a question mark over whether the Tashiro Area will be able to open. That ski area has had a really rough week or so in terms of not being able to open. The good to come from that is that there will surely be a lot of snow up there!

Other ski areas all appear to be opening.

There's nothing to report yet regarding the re-opening of the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa, but other sections of that ski area are opening as normal.

Fine, sunny, calm and rather mild weather is expected tomorrow. (That will probably encourage a lot of people to come for a Saturday trip!)
