Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this seas 911cm
Posted on Thursday 13th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
I woke up at 5am to the very unwelcome sound of heavy rain.
It since changed to snow, but coming off the rain it is rather wet.
Add some moderate to strong wind to the mix and it is not a very nice morning!
It will be getting colder during the day, and hopefully we'll have some fresh snow by tomorrow morning.
As probably expected, the weather conditions are affecting operations at quite a few ski areas this morning. Here is what we can find as of 7:50am:
All of Kagura Ski Area is going to be closed today.
All of GALA Yuzawa is also closed today.
The top Kogen section of Yuzawa Kogen will be closed (but the lower town area will be open).
The Sunrise Express lift at Ishiuchi Maruyama and a few more lifts there will not be opening as usual.
The Gondola and top Okusoechi area of Maiko Snow Resort will also be closed.
Only the A and B lifts at Kandatsu will be open.
Other lifts at other ski areas are also likely to be closed or running at low speed.
Not that many people will probably be wanting to venture out in these conditions, but be very careful if you do.
The weather tomorrow should be more friendly and we have calmer (and brighter) weather currently forecast for the weekend.
