New snowfall at base 54cm
Snowfall at base this season 202cm
Posted on Tuesday 28th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
Tons of fresh snowfall! This morning the ski area is reporting 50cm on Yamabiko, 32cm on Uenotaira, 40cm on Hikage and 20cm at Karasawa. That's from 3pm yesterday. Then there is the amount they were reporting yesterday during the day too, giving us a total of 77cm fresh at Yamabiko.
Let's forget the numbers for a moment. You know, times like this are the kind of time when the superlatives can truly be brought out of the bag and used with confidence, and not as a hype-building convenience. (I always tire when I hear them used when conditions are simply average). With the snowfall over the last few days conditions are now truly deep up there. Some might even mutter those silly comments like there's too much. Obviously, that's a ridiculous comment and Naski will be having none of that. However much snow we have, we always want more!
Skyline course is now indeed open and there's only a handful of areas of Nozawa that are not yet accessible - mostly the few courses off Skyline itself.
Tomorrow we might get some sunshine and the snow should have eased off, so it should be a top day. Then there's more heavy snow on the forecast for the last two days of 2021. Ending the year in style. That sounds great to me.
Information checked each morning. All subject to change.
