Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 410cm

Posted on Friday 23rd January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Nozawa.

Brrr, it's cold.

I'm sure I was expecting (much) (more) snow yesterday. In the end, we really didn't get much at all. It all went a bit north of us, again, particularly in the Tokamachi and Uonuma regions of neighbouring Niigata Prefecture.

Still, it's a cold morning and we have clouds above us, though some light blue to be seen away from the mountain.

We do expect heavy snow over the weekend.

This time hopefully the snow will directly target Nozawa!
