Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 76cm
Snowfall at base this season 486cm
Posted on Sunday 25th January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
So, heavy snow it is!
The ski area this morning is reporting, wait for it, up to 80cm of fresh snow since yesterday 3pm. That's not including any before then (which I was unable to check). They are also reporting 60-70cm at base areas.
I can myself report my measurement of 76cm as of 9:00am.
Now that is proper Nozawa-style snowfall! The kind that gets me super excited.
Limited to very poor visibility outside this morning and I gather a few lifts delayed but the mountain is open.
Take super care out there and absolutely know where you are going. (Naski won't always be on point to give directions!)
Tomorrow and Tuesday should bring some calmer and friendlier weather and maybe some sun too, but there's more snow expected beyond that.
