Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 55cm
Snowfall at base this season 407cm

Posted on Thursday 22nd January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

I have just had a word with Naski, who is a very happy vegetable this morning.

The ski area this morning is reporting a whopping 'up to 70cm' of snowfall. Surprisingly, more down at base than at top. (I wonder if the numbers were swapped by mistake). Anyway, I can't report quite as much as those ski areas numbers, but I can still report a still impressive 54cm.

Marvellous.

But it is one of those mornings when discussing specific numbers seem unimportant. There's a lot of fresh snow everywhere this morning and there's more to come, particularly over the weekend.

Today will of course be great, but next week should be full-on Nozawa goodness for those planning a visit.
