Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 542cm
Posted on Saturday 22nd February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
Mixed conditions this morning. The sun is out down here at base, but still quite a lot of cloud up top and it was snowing earlier on this morning. We seem to be sandwiched between areas this morning where it's still snowing (Yuzawa) and places to the west where there's brilliant blue sky (Hakuba) this morning.
Oh yes, the resort is reporting 18cm of fresh snowfall up on Yamabiko and up to 30cm on Uenodaira since yesterday morning as it was snowing for most of the day up there on the mountain, with not as much to show for it lower down by base - 5cm or so. Hikage area reporting 10cm.
Forecasts tell us to expect the sun and so I reckon it will probably clear up and leave us with a good fine day here, with similar due tomorrow too.
Hardly any snow forecast through into the middle of next week. Sun, clear and cloud is lined up. It's also due to get warmer as well mid week, perhaps a bit too warm for our liking.
The weekend should keep pretty cold though. Enjoy!
