Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 13cm
Snowfall at base this season 114cm

Posted on Friday 20th December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Snow started by the afternoon yesterday, and quite heavy at times, though it eased off by night time.

Lots of cloud this morning, but some blue sky too and it feels like it might clear up to be nice and sunny again.

The Hikage gondola, Paradise quad and Skyline connecting pair lifts are all joining in the fun from this morning. Paradise and Kokenashi courses opening too.

And... from tomorrow, more of the mountain is opening up, including the Schneider and Challenge courses as well as Rinkan and Utopia A.

Excellent!

With more snow due Saturday night (after what is expected to be a relatively mild daytime) and then through Sunday and Monday --- and maybe quite a lot of it according to forecasts --- it will not be long before the whole mountain is open. (That is just my guess).

And remember, tomorrow is your chance to meet the famous Naski at the Opening Festival (11am in front of the Resthouse Yamabiko).
