Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 598cm

Posted on Monday 18th March 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

It's 8am and the situation is still a bit unclear still this morning. Wind is blowy and a bunch of lifts are not going to be opening as normal, including both the gondolas, top lifts and a few more. So it is limited operations this morning. A wind of over 20m/s is reported up top.

The ski area is reporting 3-5cm of snow on upper areas. There has been varying slight amounts of dusting in lower areas, and that is where the 1cm is coming from today.

While we might see some sun tomorrow at times, Wednesday/Thursday is still looking to be very interesting with heavy snow still possible.

Fresh snowfall since yesterday morning (reported by the ski area):

Yamabiko: 5cm

Uenotaira: 3cm

Hikage: 0cm

Nagasaka: 0cm

Karasawa: 0cm

Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area):

Uenotaira: 190cm

Karasawa: 35cm

Spring season & planned closing date:

Cheaper spring season tickets will be available from Monday 1st April until the end of the season.

Nozawa Onsen ski area plans to open until Monday 6th May 2024 (subject to conditions).
