Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 29cm
Snowfall at base this season 141cm

Posted on Monday 18th December 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Morning from Nozawa.

And what a really great morning it promises to be.

With close on 30cm more fresh snow on the ground and sun shining down on the slopes (well, the upper areas - still some morning low cloud in lower areas but that should clear up)...

...we couldn't really be asking for much more at the moment.

It's 18th December and pretty much most of the courses are now open - that is really great to be reporting. Yet to open is just the Challenge 39; Mukobayashi, Hachiman, Kamoshika and Tanuki (and we can perhaps expect some of them to be opening soon, they are being checked this morning); as well as Kandahar.

From now on in my reports (below) I will be mentioning which lifts and courses are not open - rather than what is open.

More snowfall is due tomorrow. And more sunshine after that as we approach the weekend.

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
