Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 20cm
Snowfall at base this season 259cm
Posted on Tuesday 16th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
There's more snow to report, with nearly 40cm on the top areas of the mountain since yesterday morning. (Yesterday during the day the ski area reported 5cm at Hikage, and 16-18cm higher up. They are reporting a further 10-20cm across the mountain this morning). From here around base, I can report more than the ski area, with 20cm since yesterday morning at my measuring point.
Wind is an issue this morning and affecting the gondolas and some lifts. Both the gondolas and top lifts are not open today, so it's a 'lower mountain' kind of day and those slopes will be noticeably busier than usual. Happily, there's nice snow to enjoy down there too.
Naski has decided to take the day off too and not making the usual appearance on the Hikage slopes. No doubt that will be upsetting to Naski fans! Probably chilling out in an onsen, if not undertaking other important ski area related duties.
Hopefully we will get some more snow during today and then the whole mountain will be open to enjoy tomorrow. Sun is forecast, so it should be a great one.
