Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 19cm
Snowfall at base this season 61cm

Posted on Friday 12th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Snowy greetings to you from Nozawa.

First of all the bad news. Wind is preventing the gondola from moving this morning, so effectively the ski area is closed today. Data below shows what is 'normally open'.

I'm not seeing any snowfall numbers reported by the ski area this morning, but I can report 19cm from down at base. Perhaps that isn't as much as we thought we might get, but it is snowing and we are expecting snow through the day today.

And I imagine a fair bit more than that up at Yamabiko.

A break in the snow tomorrow, but more coming in later on Sunday.

Let's have it!
