Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 15cm
Snowfall at base this season 640cm

Posted on Saturday 9th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Another day when it looked like we should be overwhelmed by snow, but a funny wind pattern between the Noto Peninsula and Sado Island caused a little counterclockwise circulation of wind.

While the coastal areas looked like they got pounded (I enjoy watching the live camera feeds on our local cable station at these times), we got just a bit of fresh overnight.

The roadsign down on Route 18 also noted a heavy snow alert (not just a warning), so it could be interesting today. I will be heading up the mountain to do a little check of the natural conditions, and will report anything I find!

But good conditions at the moment for onpiste, too. Good and cold all night long, so excellent snow conditions.

I did hear from a local that the Myoko Skycable gondola at Kanko may not be operating on weekdays. Will let you know more on that, too.
