Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 32cm
Snowfall at base this season 940cm

Posted on Saturday 7th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Snow, a lot of wind overnight and cold. Good snow out there today, lots of it in drifts early this morning, and more coming.

Good timing after all those sunny warm days.

In the backcountry, it’s a good time to be cautious as we get fresh on top of an old hard layer. We haven’t had that much snow yet, but the forecast for the city in general just talked about 50cm, which means more up here. Sluffs are always a concern; more serious avalanches could happen.
