Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 908cm

Posted on Thursday 5th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

An early report, because I have to get out there on this sunny and warm day.

The morning news pretty much focused on how warm it’s going to be, and how dangerous the falling snow can be. A lot of roofs here still have a lot of snow on them, so that’s pretty good advice. An old, unoccupied house just below Akakan dropped a huge load right on the road a few days ago; luckily (amazingly?) there was no car below, or anyone walking. Enough came down that the results would have been really bad for either car or human.

The next wave of heavy snow looks like it will follow, so look for interesting snow news for the weekend!

I’ll mark any new reports in the listings, but things should be close to yesterday.
