Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 648cm

Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

The drifts are high, the snow is light. It's hard to tell just how much snow fell overnight around the house, with the high winds last night creating great big snow drifts right in front of the door (of course) and around the car.

But it's nice, light snow today, so that digging out process went pretty painlessly. Much nicer that the heavy slop of just a few days ago (which is now gray ice under the light white).

The forecast was for even higher winds today, so we're staying off the peaks - as tempting as all that fresh is. Some pretty strong gusts earlier, although it's pretty calm at the moment. Looks like the winds might have moved further north.
