Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 28cm
Snowfall at base this season 591cm

Posted on Saturday 4th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Beautiful snow this morning: perfect six-sided stars glittering on the surface very early, a nice steady fall of big flakes now.

The shovel-the-deck test also revealed nice fluffiness—this is our real first powder snowfall of the season.

Things seem to be running pretty OK on the hill; going into the woods this morning and on the slopes this afternoon, so I’ll share any knowledge gained. Or any interesting animal stories (five squirrels on my last hike! Most ever!)
