Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this season 106cm
Posted on Friday 3rd January 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.
It was really sunny early this morning, but the clouds have started to move in from over Mt. Myoko.
The barometer is rising a bit, but that will likely change very shortly as our next front moves in (and I love the words, "heavy snow" appearing on the SnowJapan weather page for Akakura Kanko). Things are better with the snow we've had, but it's hardly where we'd like to see the snowpack.
Kurohime remains closed; Suginohara has opened a second lift, but it is thin on the south side of the mountain. I think we'd all like to see a real Myoko snow, something like 50 to 70 cm (yes, we complain about having to clear snow, but everybody worries a lot more when there isn't enough).
Hopefully that will be our report for tomorrow.
