Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 9cm
Snowfall at base this season 102cm

Posted on Thursday 2nd January 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

A little late out of the gate this 2nd of January (sorry!), but some business about that kept me from letting you know about a little more fresh snow, and the current and often changing conditions at the ski areas.

Interesting day today for temperatures, meaning they are really inconsistent. It's about 0°C here at the Akakan base area, with an overnight low around -2°C (if the new unit can be trusted entirely, but looks good). As I've said before, we're doing serious snow research here for our dear readers! No sticking a finger in the wind and guessing on boot height for you; we use instruments and a real testing protocol. (So don't complain when we report more or less than you think it should be. Grin).

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Myoko. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
