Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 1314cm

Posted on Saturday 31st March 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

It is the second-to-the-last-day for most of the Myoko area resorts. Big cross-country race, and your truly is sitting about 1.5 kilometers out there on the course to check that the kids are all passing through properly. A mea culpa: it was calm early in the morning, but we had a pretty steady north wind through the day (as we found out, again, sitting out there in the open). That wind also released huge green clouds of pollen from the sugi trees. Lots of runny knots and itchy eyes out there.

Warmer today and the prediction on wind is in fact calm. All the reports below are from yesterday, except for Lotte Arai which updates regularly (although not on the lifts). Add a couple of degrees, maybe; keep the snow about where these are, and you’ll be good. T

Tomorrow I’ll report at a more normal time, and try to sum up this unusual season.
