Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 1470cm

Posted on Saturday 25th March 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Snow continued through most of the day yesterday in Myoko; not a whole lot of new fresh at the end of the day, but the hills are a beautiful white (as are the streets again - nice to see the dirt covered up again). The sun is shining, although we're getting a little more cloud cover at the moment. Which is just what the trusty SnowJapan forecast says....

Backcountry travelers might want to be a little careful about soft snow avalanches, with the warming fresh and slightly heavy snow on an older, harder base. Saw some pretty big ones within the ski area, building from stuff falling from the trees. Just a little caution would be good....
