Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 49cm
Snowfall at base this season 930cm

Posted on Wednesday 25th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

When you're wrong, you're wrong: there was powder out there... but there was a LOT of powder out there. Probably great out on the slopes, but those who headed into the untracked back were, ah, slow.... Like no movement unless the slope was really steep. And it kept on snowing throughout the day. And the wind blew, but not as much as near the ocean, where I was yesterday afternoon.

It's still snowing now, but it's bright enough to make me think the sun is trying to come out. We could use a little settling of the snowpack, to be honest. But people should be careful heading off away from the resorts; the possibility of sluffing is really high, which, combined with all our little valleys and ridges here, could be a bad combination.
