Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 184cm

Posted on Monday 23rd December 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

It's cold and clear, at least for the moment, here in Myoko.

Smelly, too; the conditions are bringing down sulfur fumes from the vent on the south side of Mt. Myoko, but that should go away with either wind or a little more warmth.

Clouds are forming out to the north, and the national weather report does point to the likelihood of a little more snow through the day. Either way, it's a nice day out there with a good covering of fresh snow from yesterday.

I'm guessing on some of the snow depths here; I assume at least 30cm fell at Akakan (come on resorts! Release daily reports before 8:30 - we gotta go skiing!)
