Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 1067cm

Posted on Saturday 21st February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

It’s sunny, not really warm just yet, the humidity is down.... I got a weather alert from a major Japanese weather site noting that the temperatures Monday are going to be April level. Ouch, especially with the low snow levels we already have, and with more than a month left in the season.

Looks like there may be some really strong southwest winds driving the warm spell, which also will eat up the snowpack. Ah, well, make the most of the warm weather, wax up the boards to deal with the sticky spring snow and enjoy getting a reverse-panda suntan (white eyes and tan face, a term they use around here at least).
