Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 183cm

I was hoping for some serious snowfall overnight, following on some serious rain all afternoon and into the evening, but we got a glorified dusting. No snowplows to wake me up in the middle of the night (but then you wake up anyway, because even if it's not snowing at midnight, it might start falling later on and if you don't get up and get plowing you won't get things done).
Not a great start to the new year (Happy New Year!), but snow is still falling, it's not rain, it's colder. The wind has picked up a bit; I was worried about gondola closings and that kind of wind influence, but it seems to be quieting a bit, at least at the moment.
There are even some holes in the clouds where some blue skies are appearing. Which is OK, but I'd rather have a lot more snow!
