Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 34cm
Snowfall at base this season 782cm

Posted on Friday 18th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

A pretty nice snowfall overnight, with a total of 34cm of fresh on the ground this morning.

Some pretty strong winds during the night, too, with some big drifting around my house (less at Akakan base, though). Could mean there are more cornices building up on the local ridgelines, for those who like to get up and away from the ski areas.

The snow is still falling right now, but the barometer is rising, so maybe that sun that was predicted earlier might appear tomorrow (although it looks like the chances of some solid snowfall are also growing -- Yea!)
