Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 355cm

Posted on Monday 16th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

There is some snow falling out there, but not a lot yet.

We got 2.5cm or so (this form only allows full numbers, so it will say 3), so I can for the first time report for our non-metric friends that we got one inch of snow overnight. It's very sticky snow, made up of lots of little needle-shaped crystals. Fun to do some snow gazing on your sleeve while riding the lifts....

Colder temperatures have come in as the offshore winds have swung back to the northwest. Good news as we try to keep the snowpack from slowly disappearing. Hope the cycle brings in more and bigger flakes soon!
