Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 16cm

Posted on Wednesday 14th December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

The national forecast is for heavy snow all over, and, while there's not that much on the ground yet, the overnight rain has turned to a steadily-falling-if-not-super-heavy snowfall. Pretty small flakes, not the big accumulated clumps that usually accompany heavy snow.

My favorite weather forecasting tool, though, does point to heavier snow later in the day. In the morning, the winds seem to be moving across the coastline. A few years ago, a similar wind movement basically shut down Joetsu City, just to our north.

Winter is exciting, isn't it? Even before we can actually get out and slide on the snow.
