Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 41cm
Snowfall at base this season 465cm

Posted on Wednesday 11th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

What we hope is the start of a big week has kicked off with some pretty good snow overnight.

I measured 38cm very early this morning, and there's already another 3cm or so on the ground since then (early plowing today).

Wind will be a factor, it seems; we had snow streaming off the peaks yesterday, and strong winds look likely to accompany the heavy snows of the coming days.

The heavy snow will have the people at the resorts pretty busy, too; we don't have new reports from all of them yet. I'll mark old reports below with an asterisk (*).
