Countdown to Opening: Snow Day Two
Oh that snow is falling out there, with a total since yesterday of right around a meter. The ski areas probably could open (staffing seems to be the problem, not snow at this point). Can't really blame them, in a way, because they have been running pretty tight operations in recent years, with a lot of investment also going in, particularly at Akakan (check out all the nicely repainted lift towers and renovated lift machinery, if you're into big gears). You're reporter, of course, can't wait, so the Nordic skis are coming out today. Just too much snow and too much fun (but looks like a second snow-throw later in the day, just to keep the cars moving). Really good early-season snow; let's hope it keeps going through the new year!
