Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 236cm

Posted on Thursday 19th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Yesterday the morning in particular was a real cracker! Beautiful blue skies and sunshine and all our lovely snow.

By around noon there was quite a bit of thin cloud appearing and giving proceedings a bright and part overcast feel. And by mid afternoon it was mostly cloudy. And by late night it was snowing... result of which this morning is about 5cm on the ground in village areas and resorts reporting between that amount and up to 15cm at higher elevations. So there'll be a decent fresh layer up there this morning. Worth investigating.

Visibility is way down this morning as snow continues falling. Looks foggy and not much to see at all on the upper webcams. Be sure you know where you're going!

The forecast say there may even be some sunshine poking through later on, so things do seem due to get clearer.

The forecast is looking good with a fair amount of snow on the 6 day forecast now - heaviest currently due tomorrow night into Saturday.

Nice.
