Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 15cm
Snowfall at base this season 610cm

Posted on Saturday 14th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

The good news from Hakuba continues today with another 15cm of snow on the ground here and more on the mountain. Hakuba 47 report up to 40cm, Cortina up to 35cm. Nice.

The storm has been calming down now though. This morning it looks clearer and sunny higher up, overcast skies from below. But fine weather is forecast for the day today and the sun should warm things up a bit.

There's going to be lots of sun in the coming days if the forecast has got it all right, and a proper old warming up as well. The last few days have felt like mid winter, but come a few days and we'll probably feeling very much spring once again.

Can't do anything about that. For now, it should be a great start to the weekend and I hope some of you can get to enjoy it.

Like I said yesterday, March can be a funny old month. Similar to early season, it can be a risk if you are booking a holiday, albeit a different kind of risk than early season I suppose (absolutely no snow is much worse than spring conditions!)

As the last few years have shown though, we can have very dry periods mid season as well.

But congratulations to anyone who chose to be in Hakuba at this moment in time though - you have timed it very well!
