Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 97cm
Posted on Thursday 12th December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.
We have some blue skies once again. A bank of cloud around the mountain backdrop and some other clouds around too, but generally it is largely clearer skies and some sunshine at times/in places.
A fine morning to be out on the mountains.
Ski areas are this morning reporting a modest few cm, up to around 5cm, at higher elevations.
On Saturday we are expecting three ski areas to open up: Hakuba Cortina, Hakuba Norikura Onsen and Kashimayari Skijo Family Park. There should be no problems in that happening.
And it looks like White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka is going to be opening on Saturday (14th) too. I believe they originally planned to open on the 20th, so that is an early opening. Couldn't resist!
That would leave just Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field left to open on 20th December (I think). Got to say, their website is really cumbersome to extract good info. It confuses me, even after I visit it often (for these reports). And you have to get past them boasting about record tourist visitor numbers, etc. Are normal folks really interested in that kind of stuff? (Can you tell I'm not a marketing type?!) ;)
I would guess that more of the ski areas that are already open will continue to open up further too at the weekend. (Happo-one could surely already be offering up more terrain?)
Especially as we should be getting snow tomorrow night into Saturday. And then on Sunday too. :)
