Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 14cm
Snowfall at base this season 615cm

Posted on Monday 8th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.

Late yesterday afternoon the sky started dumping snow and it just kept coming down heavily for a few hours. Looking out of the window this morning with a hot coffee in my hand I thought what a great way to start the week.

With 14cm of fresh new snow blanketing the village it is going to be an epic day out on the mountain. The weather is also going to be the cream on the pudding with mostly clear skies over the resort and the morning sun making that fresh snow sparkle in the light. There is a light breeze at village level but nothing significant. No further snowfall is expected during today.

Tomorrow should see more snow with the heaviest fall Tuesday evening and milder temperatures than today. Looking forward to next Saturday temperatures are currently forecast to spike well above 0c and bring rain.
