Within a short period after arrival, all new penguins ended up performing the same exhausting ritual as the others, then staggered out at the end of the day just like the birds in your story. Ocean11 0 Posted January 23, 2003 Author Share Posted January 23, 2003 That's weird. I wonder what made them do that? I thought about this a lot, and here's what I reckon is going on here. The penguins from Ohio have heard all about California and are paranoid about getting caught in a huge tidal wave that they are convinced will sweep over their zoo when the 'Big One' strikes. They're training so as to be ready when it comes. They mentioned this to the San Francisco penguins who all went, like, "Hey man, you might just be onto something there. And if we swim all day, we'll stay really slim too, and maybe we'll stay forever young." But I think the lady who said "these birds are making mincemeat of me." was probably exaggerating.
