nori-chan 0
My friend gave me present last week, called Advent Calendar. It's curious, small window to open every day and small choco behind each one! Up until 25th December. What is storry about it?
Goemon 0
Some info here , nori-chan. Apparently this guy had something to do with it, but he looks none too festive: For you Arsenal fans out there, here's a more religious definition: Quote: ADVENT The word Advent is from the Latin adventus for "coming" and is associated with the four weeks of preparation for Christmas. Advent always contains four Sundays, beginning on the Sunday nearest the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle, (November 30) and continuing until December 24. It blends together a penitential spirit, very similar to Lent, a liturgical theme of preparation for the Second and Final Coming of the Lord, called the Parousia, and a joyful theme of getting ready for the Bethlehem event. Since the 900s Advent has been considered the beginning of the Church year. This does not mean that Advent is the most important time of the year. Easter has always had this honor. The traditional color of Advent is purple or violet which symbolizes the penitential spirit. Religious traditions associated with Advent express all these themes.
Ocean11 0
A choco every morning doesn't sound very penitential to me...
Goemon 0
Like most Christian holidays, Christmas is reverting back to it's pagan festival origins where excess and indulgence were the way of life. huzzah!
rach 1
A choco every morning sounds good to me. I'd personally like a Creme Egg Advent Calendar. Don't they sell Creme Eggs before Chrippy anyway now?
scoobydoo 0
I used to love them things when I was a kid. I used to be so excited every day to find yet another chocolate behind the door. Oh how things were so simple back then
sweetaz 0
then there were those of us who would get so caught up in the spirit of christmas that we'd get alittle ahead of ourselves and end up finishing the calander 2 weeks early....
