Site updates 2024: Japanese ski area actual opening & closing dates (2023-2024 season)

Into the last stretch of the 2023-2024 ski season...

Sunday 31st March was the last day of the season for over 80 ski areas throughout Japan. As of 1st April, about 80 ski areas remain open.

It is the time of year when we check and record the actual opening dates and actual closing dates of every ski area in Japan. (In some examples, it is not as simple as it sounds!)

Over the coming weeks, we will gradually add this data to the individual ski area pages within SnowJapan.

Here's one example that has already been done (see the season dates near the top of the page):

Later in May 2024, we will publish a new interactive chart showing the opening/closing dates of (almost every) ski area throughout Japan.

Sunday 7th April was the last day of the 2023-2024 ski season for over 40 ski areas in Japan.

Just under 50 ski areas in Japan remain at least part open as of Monday 8th April 2024 (and one that plans to open soon...)

Sunday 21st April is the last day of the 2023-2024 ski season for a number of ski areas around Japan.

Below is a list of of the ski areas that remain at least part open from Monday 22nd April 2024 (listed by prefecture, north to south).

While we believe this information to be correct at the time of posting, we strongly recommend checking official websites/sources for the latest information if you plan on heading out.
