SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted August 17, 2023 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted August 17, 2023 About the updating of our ski area information [2023-2024 season] Every year we manually check and update the information about Japanese ski areas published on SnowJapan. The process of updating information for the upcoming 2023-2024 season has already started. It's complicated and time-consuming, and we are updating information every day. Below, we will try to explain the process and what to expect: We are as careful and thorough as possible as we check and update information. Our intention is to bring you correct, reliable, and up-to-date information. It is a manual process. We only use original and reliable Japanese sources to check information. Our updates for each ski area (about 500 of them) are often done in stages as information becomes available and we become aware of it. For example, planned opening dates are often announced first, then lift ticket prices. Then other details follow at a later date. We go back to update each ski area multiple times as we check information. As such, updates may seem somewhat random, and some information from the previous season will temporarily remain on a page. So, to be clear, updates do not appear automatically and/or simultaneously. It is an ongoing and gradual process. We try to update information for larger, more well-known and popular ski areas as early as possible. However, that is not always possible since we rely on official information sources. In our experience over many years, the majority of Japanese ski areas do not update their websites until November. Some even wait until December. (Crazy, right?!) So, you can expect the most updates to appear on SnowJapan in November and early December. As always, and as long-time followers of SnowJapan will know, we are not here to bring you marketing messaging or promotional press releases. No-one tells us what to do and we'll always do what we feel is right. Please read this for more information on 'planned opening dates'. As of 19th November 2023, we have completed updating the information (within SnowJapan) for just over half of the ski areas in Japan. The remaining 200+ ski areas have yet to update their own information for the 2023-2024 season, either at all or fully. It has taken until around Christmas for updates to be completed in previous seasons. Our site updates continue every day. Link to post Share on other sites

It is the same every year, but it seems crazy that so many ski areas in Japan have still not updated their websites by the end of November. Many still have 'thank you for visiting' (referring to the end of the 2022-2023 season) as their last update! There will likely be a flurry of activity as we get into December. With just a few exceptions*, almost all the remaining ski areas left to update are small local hills. In the past, some of them have only updated their information after they opened in late December! We won't feel satisfied until all our information is updated, so some telephone calls may have to be made over the coming weeks in an effort to discover information. * We won't shame them here! In the past, some of those have only updated their info on the day they open..... or after they open. (!) We'll keep an eye on them and get things all sorted as quickly as possible. Having said that, information for about 15 needs rechecking and confirming. It is amazing how some small ski areas have absolutely no updated information available. With the generally low snowfall at the start of this winter season, quite a few ski areas around Japan have had to delay opening (or close after initially opening).
