The force arrested 1,282 over-65s between 2007 and 2009, including several pensioners charged with burglary, arson and drug dealing. An 87-year-old man was arrested for violence and an 86-year-old woman on a driving offence. The oldest man arrested was 89. Age Concern said crimes committed by OAPs living in poverty should be dealt with differently to crimes of greed. A spokesman said: ‘The recession could have led to older people turning to crime.
