Information and advises please? 6 guys, powderhunt, freeride

Recommended Posts

We are 6 guys who are arriving tokyo in mid february and we got about 3 weeks in total, have never been to Japan before, and therefore we need some info smile we are traveling on a budget.

We are here to ski and snowboard, deep powder is the goal! It looks like we have to get up to hokkaido to get the real deal going, so here are some questions:

What is the cheapest/easiest transport to sapporo from tokyo?

Which resorts should we check out? we are mostly into backcountry and freeriding.. Have heard that it is not tolerated (at all) to go out of bonds in japan?

What about accomodation? need something cheap, what should we look for?

How to get around on hokkaido?

If you have an international driver's license (or your country's driver's license is recognized in Japan) the best way to get around is a rental car if you are planning on going to many different resorts. Otherwise, you will be using the extensive train and bus system. Hokkaido is mostly rural, so if you have a rental car, you can genrerally get around quicker than by bus and train.

Yep, I just bought a one way Airdo flight from Sapporo to Haneda for 12,500. It's a '28-day' fare, meaning it's available for purchase from two months before flying date to 28 days before flying date. Best to buy right on the two-month mark as a number of flight times were already unavailable for that price.
