Long queues in Yurakucho

On Friday I was in Yurakucho and there were some insane queues of people lined up for what must have been well over 500m, 5L people deep - it looked like they were waiting to buy tickets at a booth. Lottery perhaps? And if so how come the rush on them like that

maybe the new year lotto, however i thought those tix have been on sale for a month or so already...?

 

sometimes they pay 'fleeters' to stand in the queues to make them longer and thus attract more punters.

I can't imagine that was for something that was on sale a month already... huge it was, they must have had to wait a long time there.

One Sunday morning back in July I saw insane queues in a Co-op supermarket for no clear reason. Every checkout had a queue three wide to the back wall, and it's a big store. The checkouts were still operating so it wasn't a computer problem. I checked if the punters were all buying the same heavily discounted thing but they weren't.
