  1. Nozawa Onsen Nozawa Onsen Village, Nagano Prefecture New Nagasaka Gondola lift During the off season the old Nakasaka Gondola at Nozawa Onsen was totally dismantled, and a brand new gondola has been installed. The old gondola had a mid-station with a change in direction but the new one goes straight up from the same base point to the top Yamabiko area of the ski area. The new gondola is scheduled to be open in December. Nozawa Onsen also said earlier in the summer that they had plans to have some snow making machines available this season. Obviously, we hope that such machines will not be needed!
  2. Shiga Kogen Yamanouchi Town, Nagano Prefecture New pulse gondola lift for 2020-2021 A new ‘pulse gondola’ lift at Shiga Kogen should be ready for the 2020-2021 season. Pulse gondolas feature cabins that are grouped together in “pulses” rather than being spaced evenly along the cable. The new lift will feature two ‘pulses’ of 3 cabins, each holding 8 people, and the short 400m journey will take just 90 seconds. The location of the new gondola is by the side of the Shiga Kogen Yama-no-Eki building (opposite the Sougo Kaikan 98 Building that houses the Tourist Information Centre). That is close to the Hasuike area of Shiga Kogen. The new gondola goes down from there to the base of the pair lift at the Giant ski area. Until 2012 the 1,500m Shiga Kogen Ropeway used go from the same area over to Hoppo Onsen. That lift operated from 1960 and was removed after closing. There will be parking for 500 vehicles close by the new gondola and with the main bus stop within walking distance, Shiga Kogen is proclaiming it as a new convenient way to get over to the Takamagahara, Terakoya, Ichinose, Yakebitaiyama and Okushiga areas of the resort.
  3. Hi there, Family ( 3 kids and the Mrs) and I are travelling to Japan, skiing Myoko/Nozawa from Jan 1st 2020. First ever trip to Japan. We arrive Tokyo on December 31st and will head to Myoko via Nagano on trains on Jan 1st. We want to get skiing asap on arrival but would like to purchase some ski gear ( skis for our 5 y/o for example) ASAP on arrival. We wont have time in Tokyo (plus it'll be NYE). I would really appreciate any tips/advice on buying gear in either Nagano or Myoko. Whats best for us to get widest selection, value etc... We are also happy to buy online to collect on arrival if thats possible/better! Thanks in advance!

  7. ...if you want to ski in Hakuba, Nozawa, Shiga Kogen, Myoko. It seems to be kind of in the middle of all those places geographically. We're keen in checking out the city too. It's either that or staying in perhaps two of those ski towns. Wondering if Nagano might be cheaper, though there's transportation to take into account as well. But we might get a rental car. So many questions. Fun thinking about it though! Thanks for any feedback.

A trip to Hakuba and Nozawa

We are thinking of doing 10 days in Nagano in January. We want to stay in Hakuba and Nozawa but can't quite decide on how to split it up - half/half or a bit more in one place than another. Keen to hear any thoughts on that!
  9. We have visited Hokkaido the last two winters. Totally love it. But next year we are planning on spreading our wings a little and checking out somewhere new. We like the look of Shiga Kogen / Nozawa region of Nagano Prefecture. Anyone who has been to both regions, any words of wisdom for us?
  10. What's your choice of starting base for the Goryu/47 resort and why? Wondering which might be the best to start from. Thanks.
  11. I am going to be living in Japan from July. Looks like I'll be living in Ueda city in Nagano Prefecture. Anyone around that area and good recommendations? I have never been snowboarding before but I'm totally going to get into it. Can't wait.
  12. Has anyone been there this season ('18-'19) know the answer? Shigakogen-ski's lift info page shows ski-only, but friends and some other sites said that SB has been allowed in recent years. We'll be staying in Yakebiteyama for only 3 days. Since Yokoteyama is quite far from there, knowing this will really help me planning. Thanks!
  13. Greetings Can someone please give me a bit of feedback on which ski resort in Hakuba might be best for moguls? Thanks Jeoung

    Hakuba shuttle bus

My family and I will be visiting Hakuba soon. We'll be getting there by Shinkansen and then bus, and using the shuttle bus around the village. Hoping to check out most of the big skijo in the area. Can't wait. How do people find the main shuttle bus service? Is it always on time and a good service, or do people use transport provided by individual skijo? Cheers
