  1. I just did a tracking on my latest Amazon order, and they seem to have conquered the time travel paradox: August 30, 2014, 2:41 am, Ontario CA US Package has left the carrier facility August 29, 2014, 11:01 pm, Ontario CA US Package arrived at a carrier facility August 29, 2014, 7:41 pm, Ontario CA US Package received by carrier August 29, 2014, 8:23 pm, US Package has left seller facility and is in transit to carrier

So apparently it was received by the carrier both before it arrived at the carrier facility and even before it left the seller!

    I'm impressed

  2. Here's something that should cheer you up a bit, Chris:

New to the world of novelty candies are Spicy Gummy Peppers, the snack that’s supposedly almost as spicy as the real peppers they’re based on. The three peppers come in different shapes: Jalapeño, Habanero and Ghost Pepper. Each pepper represents a different level of heat intensity.

The gummies are combined with a fruit flavor to pair with the heat: jalapeño and apple, habanero and orange, and cherry and ghost pepper. Each gummy is actually imbued with the real-life pepper, albeit not as intense. It still needs to taste like candy, after all.

  3. Evidently they have (or had) some sort of open-ended reverse mortgage system in France, where you sell your property at a price the buyer calculates but still live there. The property goes to the mortgage holder when you die.

I read about some lady who took one of these out when she was something like 70, and was still alive and kicking at about 98 and the buyer had pretty much given up. Good for her!

  4. I'd agree on staying in Hakodate. There is a downside, however, that the train connection via Oshamanbe doesn't get you to Niseko until 1:25 p.m. (with a 40-minute wait at Oshamanbe).

You can catch the ovenite Hokutosei express at 6:49 and get to Niseko about 10:36, but you have to pay an extra Y8,000 for that train.

All in all, I'd say Oshamanbe onsen hotel is your best bet if you want to ski the day of arrival; Hakodate if that's not an issue.
